I know what it feels like to react before you think. To carry something you can’t name.

To love the people in your life deeply and still not be able to show up the way you want.

A note from Susan...

I work with children, families, and helping professionals, and I notice the same pattern again and again.

People care deeply.

They know what matters. They want to respond with patience, clarity, and connection. And yet, under stress, those skills disappear.

What I see isn’t a lack of love, insight, or effort — it’s nervous systems under pressure. I hold a deep conviction: we are asking children to navigate stress, change, and emotion without ever teaching them how — and then wondering why they disconnect from themselves when things get hard.

Too often, children learn that survival means adapting, pleasing, or pushing through, rather than staying connected to who they truly are.

My work rests on the belief that lasting change doesn’t come from trying harder or managing behavior better. It comes from understanding how stress lives in the body, heart, and mind — and learning how to stay connected to ourselves even in moments of pressure.

I believe we must teach children these skills proactively, not reactively — before stress becomes overwhelming, before coping turns into self-abandonment, and before disconnection becomes a way of life. Front-loading children with the language, awareness, and tools to navigate stress protects their sense of identity and worth.

Through The Rooted Enneagram, I use the harmony model of the Enneagram alongside attachment-informed, nervous-system-aware, and relational practices to help adults recognize their patterns, soften shame, and regain access to themselves.

When adults become steadier and more connected, children no longer have to carry what was never theirs to hold.

This work is personal to me, professional in its grounding, and generational in its hope.

For over two decades, Susan has worked alongside children, families, and helping professionals — and built the Rooted Enneagram Method from that work.

Her approach weaves together the Enneagram, nervous system awareness, and attachment-informed practice into something both clinically grounded and deeply human. She lives in Shelbyville, Kentucky — the heart of horse country — where she keeps a private practice with her husband, Drew.

They are the proud parents of seven grown children.

When she can get away, she heads to the Pacific Northwest, where the mountains and coastline have a way of putting everything back in perspective.

Why The Rooted Enneagram

I Created This For:

  • the parent who loves their child fiercely and still loses it at 9am

  • the counselor who can name every theory and still feels helpless in the room

  • the person who has done the reading, the journaling, the therapy — and still wonders why, under pressure, they become someone they don't recognize

I created the Rooted Enneagram Method™ because I kept looking for something I couldn't find — a framework that didn't just explain why people struggle, but helped them actually feel their way back to themselves.

I wanted something that held the nervous system and the soul in the same hand. Something that took the Enneagram beyond personality typing and into the body, the patterns, the places where stress quietly erodes who we know ourselves to be.

I built it because I was that person.

And I needed more than insight. I needed a way home.
